Ice Cube says he won’t stop fighting for the rights to Friday film franchise

The rapper is determined "to convince Warner Bros. that they’re wrong"

Ice Cube has said he won’t stop fighting for the rights to the Friday film franchise.

In 1995, the rapper and actor wrote and starred in the stoner buddy comedy alongside Chris Tucker, which went on to develop cult status along with its sequels Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002).

In 2019, he appeared on ESPN’s 'The Jump' and said that a fourth script, 'Last Friday', was in the works for the original film’s 25th anniversary in 2020. However, the following year, he claimed that Warner Bros. had “hi-jacked” the franchise, preventing its creators from making any more films.

Now Cube has told a TMZ Hip Hop reporter that he isn't willing to take the battle to court but is still determined to "convince Warner Bros. that they’re wrong". He also clarified that Waner Bros. owns both the names of the franchise and the characters. “You gotta use the same [intellectual property],” he said. “Can’t call it Saturday without using Craig and Day-Day. So it’s the same thing really.”

As hiphopdx reports, in December he told Mike Tyson that has no plans to buy the intellectual property back. “I ain’t putting shit up for it. Fuck no,” he said. “They need to give it to me, and they gon’ make money. I’m not about to pay for my own stuff, that’s stupid... They need to do the right thing, get it to us, let us turn it into more money, and make the fans happy... We can do a lot with it.”
