Roland might be about to bring back the iconic TR-909 drum machine.
The company has dropped a huge hint that they might be getting set to re-release the iconic drum machine, after announcing a “909 Celebration Event’ for Friday 9th September, which will see a series of products revealed during a global livestream.
“For 33 years the TR-909 has been one of the most definitive sounds in electronic music and the beating heart of DJ culture,” Roland announced via press release. “Join us as we celebrate 33 years of the “909” with the release of many new and inspiring electronic instruments.”
The original TR-909 was discontinued in 1985 and now commands ludicrous prices on sites like Gumtree and Ebay — next to the 808 it's arguably Roland's most famous product and has been a shoe-in for a remake for quite awhile.
It's expected to join the company's Boutique range, which launched last year and saw vintage Jupiter-8, Juno-106 and JX-3P synths reimagined in trimmed-down form.
