ILLEGAL RAVES COULD DAMAGE THE LARGEST SQUIRREL COLONY IN WALES

Raves over the last May Bank Holiday weekend reportedly drove the local wildlife nuts...

A wildlife expert in Wales has warned that illegal raves there could be damaging wildlife in the country by scaring animals away with the disturbance.

Over 2,000 people attended a rave on woodland at a site between Llanddewi Brefi and Llanfair Clydogau in Ceredigion over the last Bank Holiday weekend for a three-day party. The area is home to one of the largest red squirrel colonies in Wales.

Speaking about the impact the illegal raves in the area could have, Dr Lizzie Wilberforce, of the Welsh Wildlife Trust, told The Telegraph, “Animals can grow accustomed to regular disturbance – it's when something happens in an area previously left untouched that problems can occur.

“There's normally very little human activity in that area so the effects of the rave could potentially be far greater.”

Locals in the area have been appealing to Dyfed-Powys Police to stop any further illegal raves from happening there after the Bank Holiday event, which was reportedly run by a collective called UKTek. It is thought to have been organised by coded clues delivered through text messages and emails.
