Jack J announces debut solo album, ‘Opening the Door’, on Mood Hut

Jack J will release his debut solo album, ‘Opening the Door’, via Mood Hut on 1st April. Check out the video for the single, ‘Only You Know Why’ below.

The Vancouver-based DJ, producer and songwriter returns to the label he co-runs with fellow Pender Street Stepper Liam Butler with his first solo release since 2015. The eight-track album was recorded between 2015 and 2019 at Mood Hut and C'est Life Studios, and combines "inward-peering ambient jazz, On-U-inspired digital-dub and quiet storm soft rock” with the artist’s distinctive vocals and balearic and boogie grooves. All instruments on the album are performed by Jack J himself, apart from the saxophone, which is played by Linda Fox.

Jack J’s last solo release was 2015’s ‘Thirstin’’, which was preceded by 2014’s ‘Looking Forward to You’. Pender Street Steppers released a double single ‘Our Time’ via Mood Hut in 2019, and continue to host a regular show on NTS Radio
