Jackmaster speaks out on sexism in the music industry
"There is something very wrong here..."

Jackmaster has blasted misogyny within the music industry in a series of angry tweets.
Speaking out last night (Sunday 5th February), the Scottish DJ said "the things that I heard said about females in the industry tonight were fucking not acceptable."
"It is way waaay too easy to be ignorant to the fact as a male DJ in a privileged position," he continued, before apologising for his "prior ignorance and silence on the subject."
DJs such as The Black Madonna, Scuba, Josey Rebelle, Midland and NYC collective Discwoman voiced their support of Jackmaster's comments. Read his original tweets and their replies below.
1) Tonight was the 1st time that the plight and/or prejudice surrounding females in the music industry truly hit home and resonated with me

Stop asking me to "name and shame". This isn't a witch hunt. If you think it is then you're part of the problem. Hate breeds hate.

My ignorant stance used to be that there was "loads of successful female DJs doing great".. what a prick
— JACKMASTER (@jackmaster) 5 February 2017
It's what's said and enforced my powerful males behind the scenes that is the problem. End of rant. Bon nuit.

— josey rebelle (@JoseyRebelle) 5 February 2017
@jackmaster but this should extend to peoples comments and views on women in general. We have to call them out, especially if they are mates
— Midland (@midlandsound) 5 February 2017
.@jackmaster It's important for men in music to admit when this happens esp in the absence of women and defend us when we're not able to.
