Jamie xx has remixed The xx's 'On Hold': LISTEN

Last year's anthem gets a rethink

Jamie xx has remixed The xx's 'On Hold'. The new take on the band's track was premiered by BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac this week.

Released as a single last November, the song was the lead offering from the outfit's third studio album, 'I See You', which was officially unveiled at the beginning of this year and is currently in line for a Mercury Music Prize. The original tune itself uses a sample from 'I Can't Go For That', Hall & Oates' classic 1981 anthem, with this new version retaining the same element.

Those expecting this to be all familiar territory should think again, though. Jamie's remix opts to substitute the broken beat of 'On Hold' with a four four rhythm, and offers a vibe more suited to peak-time club moments rather than its pop-infused source material.
