Kenny Allstar to host new Radio 1 Rap Show
Tiffany Calver is stepping down as the host of the Saturday night 1Xtra Rap Show after four years at the helm
BBC has named Kenny Allstar the host of the new Radio 1 Rap Show.
The London DJ will be taking over from Tiffany Calver, who is stepping down as the 1Xtra Rap Show host after four years. The rebranded Radio 1 Rap Show, showcasing hip-hop and rap from the UK and abroad, will be broadcast on Saturday nights at 9 AM on both Radio 1 and 1Xtra stations.
"From the age of 11, I remember taking my mother’s cassette tapes to record The Rap Show on Saturdays", Kenny Allstar said. "This was more than a radio show, it was my entire social life. I always wanted to one day be the host of this powerful slot on these powerful networks. I hope to uphold the legacy that Tiffany left in place and continue to showcase the hottest in hip-hop music on a global scale".
Kenny Allstar first DJ'd on BBC radio in 2017, quickly slotting into the 1Xtra rotation. By autumn 2018, he took over the 1Xtra Friday Rap Show for DJ Semtex. At the same time, he released his debut album, 'Block Diaries', on Columbia Records and collaborated with the likes of Headie One, 67, M Huncho and more.
Earlier this year, BBC Radio 1Xtra debuted a new Friday night show dedicated to Black dance music culture called the Rave Show, hosted by Jeremiah Asiamah.
