An audio documentary about Aphex Twin has just aired on BBC Radio 4 called ‘The Cult of Aphex Twin’, positioned around the mythology that surrounds the ambient techno pioneer.
Hosted by music journalist John Doran (Editor of The Quietus), it delves into the strange world of the singular artist, attempting to separate the man from the myth.
Some of the questions it attempts to answer are, "Does he really write songs while asleep after training himself in the practice of lucid dreaming? Does he drive a tank round Cornwall? Did he once live in a bank vault in the middle of the Elephant & Castle roundabout?"
The show features interviews with fans and "those who know him best", including Tom Middleton, producer Leila, and comedian Vic Reeves.
The 30-minute show is well worth a listen and can be found here.
