Victor Calderone drops trippy new track, 'Zenith': Premiere

Brooklyn's best brings a psychedelic vibe to the floor with his latest production...

Victor Calderone always delivers what we’re craving, and his latest offering is no exception. ‘Parallel’ EP is a four-track bundle of smouldering, cinematic groove slated for release on fellow techno tastemaker Nicole Moudaber’s MOOD Records next week.

In a departure from the heavier, machine-driven vibe of his recent productions, the content of this EP finds its footing in a dark, trippy underworld of organic sounds and atmospheric melody.

DJ Mag is pleased to premiere ‘Zenith’, a cut that takes the veritable cake in the psychedelic department – subterranean, hazy and raw, the song carries us away through the thick air of a deep, damp cavern on the back of a hypnotic lead riff.

Victor says that’s exactly the vibe he was going for: “It was one of those tracks that unfolded from the emotion the synth was creating. I felt it had this dark, cinematic mood to it and I played off that with the atmospheric pads and trippy vocal loop. Totally creates visuals as I sit and listen to it now.”

The Brooklyn born and bred DJ-producer has built his long-standing career in the underground, always exploring new corners of house and techno and never abandoning his commitment to groove – the shoulder-shaking, booty-bouncing variety that sets dancefloors on fire. Last year’s ‘Inside’ EP was nominated for Best Track/EP in DJ Mag’s inaugural Best of North America Awards poll earlier this month, and Victor Calderone will be headlining the Best of North America Awards Tour’s San Francisco stop at Halcyon this Friday.
