Mala relaunches I&I Music label with collaborative EP, ‘Word & Sound’: Listen

Natty and Benjamin Zephaniah appear on the release

Mala has relaunched his label I&I Music, with the first new material taking the form of 'Word & Sound'—  reference to the Rastafari concept of "word-sound-power" and music's ability to change the world for the better.

A collaborative EP, the work sees the Deep Medi Musik boss join forces with Natty and Benjamin Zephaniah, with the combined efforts producing a track that is about promoting "positivity and connection".

“'Word & Sound' explores the unsaid power to have an impact and create change through the conscious vibration of music," Mala explained in a press release. "In these dark times, this is a tune that promotes positivity and connection through unseen unification. Out of the darkness comes light.”

“The making of this record happened so naturally," he added. "The words inspired me to create the music. Their message and intention was set. Conscious vibrations using words and sounds.”

I&I is most famous for its white label output, and has confirmed it will be reissuing classic cuts from Digital Mystikz — Coki and Mala —  in the new year. Mala has also just been revealed as the "South London legend" playing b2b with Kode9 at Village Underground in London this weekend as part of the  15 Years of Hyperdub celebrations.
