Marcus Intalex’s Soul:r label to release final EP next month

Hear ‘Held You In My Arms’ from Mako’s ‘Fourfit 009’ now...

Bristol DJ/producer and Utopia Music founder Mako will release the final EP to appear on the late Marcus Intalex’s Soul:r label next month.

Set for release on 9th November, Mako’s contribution to the label’s celebrated ‘Fourfit’ EP series had been scheduled to drop in mid-2017 but was delayed following the sudden, tragic passing of Intalex – real name, Marcus Kaye – that May, aged 45.

Now, close friends and family members of the d&b pioneer (who also produced house music as Trevino) are giving the label its deserved send-off with the release of the ninth ‘Fourfit’ collection. The four-track EP is  a typically groundbreaking and versatile selection of quality drum & bass with an intoxicating minimal flare. Fittingly, track two on the release, ‘Message Music’, features Intalex himself alongsing Mako.

Below, you can hear the EP’s atmospheric closer, ‘Held You In My Arms’, an appropriately cutting edge send-off for a label that was defined by groundbreaking determination. You will be able to purchase the EP from Soul:r's Bandcamp

“Without Marcus here to curate, direct, and propel the music he loved passionately on his label, it would be dishonest to continue to release records without him under the Soul:r name,” reads an official mailout about the release. "Marcus was Soul’r, and Soul:r was Marcus, the 2 names were synonymous.”

This news corresponds with the recent announcement of the Marcus Intalex Music Foundation in Manchester. "MIMF is a platform to support and nurture talent in many aspects of music development and the culture that surrounds it," director, Nick Sinna, said in a statement. "One of Marcus’ greatest passions was to encourage and guide aspiring music talent, as well as pass on the knowledge he himself acquired over the course of his long-standing and successful career."

Tomorrow (23rd October), we will be premiering a single from a forthcoming posthumous 12” by Intalex under a pseudonym, Art Vandelay. This EP, which had also been scheduled for release in 2017, will be released on a new label called Vandelay industries.
