Massive Attack brand Pete Tong’s Ibiza Classics show a “nostalgia nightmare"

Massive Attack have laid into Pete Tong as a result of the BBC veteran playing their iconic track, ‘Unfinished Sympathy', at his Ibiza Classics show. 

Voicing their opinions via social media, they called the tour a “nostalgia nightmare scenario” on their Facebook page. They also explained how during their own shows, when the track is played it’s accompanied by videos of refugee camps to raise awareness and funds for UNHCR. With this in mind, they suggested Tong could donate some of the show's proceeds to the organisation if he means “to carry on coining it [off the back of other people’s music}". 

It should be pointed out that this is far from the first time Massive Attack and Pete Tong have fallen out with one another. In 2011, Tong issued a restraining order against Massive Attack’s former singer, Shara Nelson. Nelson had claimed she’d married Tong and had his child, whereas Tong strongly denied both claims. Tong was granted the restraining order, forbidding Nelson to contact him or his family. And who provides the vocals on ‘Unfinished Sympathy’? Why none other than Shara Nelson herself...
