Mexican queer music and arts festival, Somos, which takes place in the coastal city of Puerto Vallarta, has launched a fundraiser to sponsor members of its community to attend.

Open from now until February, the GoFundMe fundraiser will collect donations that help finance "flights, transportation, meals and accommodation, with full weekend festival passes donated by Somos".

"Applicants will be chosen based on need by our scholarship outreach ambassador (yes we just made up that title, but it's a thing!) and a committee of our community members," the festival team wrote. "We'll be prioritizing applicants from marginalized communities, and ensuring more than half of recipients are local to Mexico / Latin America."

The Somos Scholarship was launched in 2022 "to help cover the expenses of members of our community who need extra financial help getting to Somos, with an emphasis on (but not exclusively) trans/nonbinary and BIPOC."

The festival has so far raised $1,250 USD of its $6,000 goal and you can donate here.

The 2024 edition of the festival, which is held on a private beach in Puerto Vallarta, is happening from 8th February until the 12th. Scheduled artists included Bears in Space, Horse Meat Disco, Heidi Lawden, Lovefingers, The Carry Nation, YIN, Manu Miran, Dylan Reece, Kodemul, Vicki Powell, Dj Hermano and more.
