Netflix and NTS launch Top Boy Academy

The event will take place over two days later this month

Netflix and NTS will host an event in London later this month, Top Boy Academy.

Following the launch of the third series of Top Boy, the series written by Ronan Bennett and featuring Ashley Walters, Kane Robinson, AKA Kano, and Michael Ward, streaming giant Netflix has teamed up with NTS radio to present Top Boy Academy on the 28th and 29th September.

Taking place at The Curtain in Shoreditch, a hotel and venue in East London, the two-day event will feature a host of guests presenting conversations, classes and radio workshops, and is aimed at young people aged between 16 and 25 living in Hackney.

Among the guests will be Black to Techno director Jenn Nkiru, who presents a conversation on the future of black film, alongside discussions gaining insight on careers in the TV and film industry from producers, costume directors and other professionals who have worked on Top Boy.

1Xtra DJ Tiffany Calver will also speak about her career with the radio station, with the NTS radio production team running workshops on creating and recording Podcasts.

Previously mentioned Ashley Walters, Michael Ward and Ronan Bennett will also attend the two-day workshop, speaking about their roles in the Top Boy series, and other workshops include how to mix and master rap tracks, DJing for beginners, recording an audition tape and a lesson in running a label and club night from Elijah of Butterz.

Although the event is aimed at those living in Hackney, the event will not be limited strictly to those in the Borough. Sign up for the Top Boy Academy here
