New York’s mayor offers $500,000 in grants to women in music

$500,000 in grants is being offered to those who identify as women in the five boroughs of New York City by The City of New York Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME).
The grants are part of The NYC Women's Fund For Media, Music and Theatre Initiative, a project which in 2019 has awarded $1.5 million for various film, theatre and digital media projects by women.
The grants from MOME are for music projects specificially, and up to $20,000 will be awarded providing that 75% of the recording and studio time is in the city, or 75% of the project budget costs are spent locally.
Applications for the grants are now open.
London's Barbican and Southbank Centre, Opera North in Leeds and Manchester's Royal Northern College of Music and BBC Philharmonic have signed up to tackle gender imbalance in the music industry with PRS's Keychange initiative.
This year, new club The Sultan Room opened in the Brooklyn area of New York.
