Premiere: Benga 'Psychosis'

The dubstep original launches new label, Illuminate...

Benga has returned with his first track since 2016, a tough, paranoid electro cut called 'Psychosis'.

Built around a repetitive robotic vocal and simple-but-effective beat, the track comes alive through bee sting synthwork which rains down from all angles.

As the name would suggest, creating the tune was a cathartic process for the original dubsteppa, who has been outspoken about his struggles with mental health, brought about by drug use and excessive touring.

"It was all part of the process leading to acceptance and moving forward," he tells DJ Mag. "I had just finished writing about everything that happened leading up to my sectioning. So when I wrote psychosis this is what came out, it was organic and it captured everything I was about. It came together in five minutes."

The release also marks the launch of Benga's new label, Illuminate, which he intends to expand far beyond just his own productions.

"For a while I’d been thinking about what I had to offer and one of the things was A&R work," he says. "Being able to spot the idea and help it be what it needs to be. As A&R you need an understanding of where things are, where they are heading, vision and creativity.

"The label for me was about getting ideas of every quality, pushing things forward and giving them and the artists a platform!"

'Psychosis' is out today, check it out below...
