RBMA TOUR RETURNS TO THE UK THIS WINTER
32 unique shows, lectures and workshops…
Red Bull Music Academy has today announced its plans for a month-long 2016 UK tour which will touch down in Liverpool, Glasgow, London and Leeds.
Held over four consecutive weekends, musical icons and rising stars from each city will be given a platform to throw down and celebrate their contribution to UK’s vibrant electronic music scene. They’ll be joined by international names that'll connect the dots between the UK and a global exchange of musical ideas.
Across genres as diverse as hip-hop, grime, soul, house, techno, garage and electro, the RBMA UK Tour will present club-nights, studio sessions, AV shows, art installations, radio broadcasts and, ever at the centre of the Academy experience, intimate live lectures with some of today’s most important artists.
Kicking-off in Liverpool from Thursday 6th October to Sunday 9th October, the tour begins at the city’s Victorian Palm House with a showcase from RBMA alumn Jamie Woon.
For the tour’s first lecture UK rap duo Krept & Konan will sit down for one of RBMA’s famous fireside chats, where the duo will talking about how they maintained their credibility alongside signing a major label deal.
The weekend will see one of the scene’s masters, Kenny Dope, touching down in Liverpool alongside Kidkanevil and No Fakin’ DJs for rare appearance in the city.
Moving onto Glasgow, from Thursday 13th October to Sunday 16th October, Mumdance have been lined-up for a Modular Synth Workshop, whilst local hero Jackmaster turns local laundry emporium Majestic Laundrette into the city’s most unlikely hot ticket for the night at Discospin.
Elsewhere, Kölsch takes his live show to Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom before hitting Sub Club for the afterparty. And there will be a RBMA lecture with Young Fathers to look forward to, too.
Then it’s a trip down the M6 to London from Thursday 19th October to Sunday 22nd October with Gorgon City opening proceedings in the capital with a special production workshop at Red Bull’s London HQ.
Grime don Dizzie Rascal will be hitting the Red Bull Music Academy couch to discuss his ascent from Bow to the big time.
And then it’s back up the M1 to Leeds for the final weekend, which will see Kano kick-off the final leg, who’ll be siting down with friend and collaborator Hattie Collins, and she'll also be revealing a new exhibition ‘An Eye On Grime’, exploring the scene’s relationship with photography.
And then there’s the small matter of an all-Berlin techno takeover hitting Wire, featuring Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann, before another top of the range DJ billing sees Canal Mills welcome DJ Harvey back to Leeds.
Tickets are on sale 10am Tuesday 23rd August here.
