Rihanna will star and make music for the new Smurfs movie

Rihanna has been announced as the voice of Smurfette in the upcoming Smurfs movie by Paramount Animation.

The news was reportedly revealed by the artist herself at CinemaCon, where she also joked about trying to get the role of Papa Smurf, according to a report by Deadline. In addition to voicing the character, the star will also be writing and recording original songs for the film.

According to IndieWire, Rihanna said: “Getting to do animation is a fun journey for me. I’m usually front and center with everything with my likeness... but this was fun, I got to imagine, I got to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester, and be a blue badass.”

The currently untitled Smurfs movie is set to be released on 14th February 2025. It will be the third film in the franchise, following 2011’s The Smurfs and 2017’s Smurfs: The Lost Village.

Earlier this year, Rihanna performed her single ‘Lift Me Up’ at the Oscars 2023 from the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, where she was nominated for Best Original Song.

In February, Rihanna returned to the live stage at The Super Bowl Halftime Show for her first performance in five years.
