Selection of dance music’s most important labels celebrated in new zine collection

Velocity Press has announced Dubstep Vol. 1 as part of The Icon Catalogue series

The Icon

Velocity Press has announced a new addition to its The Icon Catalogue series, titled Dubstep Vol. 1. The zines profile record labels in specific sounds, with UK Garage Vol. 1 and Jungle Vol. 1 landing before the dubstep edition. Each zine features 40 label profiles and aims to highlight and archive some of each scene's most important labels.

Originally launched in 2022 by Chris Dexta from the Planet Wax record shop in New Cross, London, the previous two zines have been reprinted in line with the launch of the newest edition, Dubstep Vol. 1. Dexta is a DJ, producer and label boss, as well as a graphic designer, who designed and co-wrote the first two volumes of The Icon Catalogue series: UK Garage Vol. 1 and Jungle Vol. 1.

Speaking about Dubstep Vol. 1, Dexta said, “Dubstep was a scene that emerged from the darker garage I was into as I was starting my journey into dance music. It grew rapidly and got so big — from tiny rooms in Croydon and Hackney to huge arenas all over the world.

“It's a genre that I've dabbled with and have been collecting for some time now. I'm so glad that with the support from Velocity Press, I've been able to wrap up and release Dubstep Vol. 1. Now we can get to work on part two, and many other styles!"
