SOPHIE, Nicolas Jaar’s Other People, Aya, more locked for Urvakan festival 2020

The Armenian festival is taking place in abandoned buildings in the suburbs

Experimental Armenian festival Urvakan has announced a second wave of acts playing its 2020 edition, taking place from the 5th May to the 9th May.

Nicolas Jaar's Other People have been announced as a curator, while pop pioneer SOPHIE will be playing live, and elsewhere there are appearances from Juliana Huxtable (who mixed the latest in our Recognise series), AYA, ZULI and more.

Over 100 acts from 20 countries have been selected for the festival by curators including labels like Club Chai, GOST ZVUK and Klammklang, while highlights from the previously-announced line-up include Slikback, Aïsha Devi, Buttechno, Emptyset, The Bug and more.

Urvakan' means ghost, phantom or spirit, and the festival's vision is to breathe life back into abandoned and disused buildings in the suburbs of Yerevan, Armenia. Locations include the Yerevan Children's Railway and Mirzoyan Library, while the weekend programme will take place at an abandoned scientific institute.
