SOUNDCLOUD DENIES IT WILL BLOCK DJ MIXES

Initial reports to the contrary were incorrect...

Reports surfaced in the dance music media earlier this week that SoundCloud were preparing to block all DJ mixes that aren’t fully cleared, but the music streaming platform has quickly moved to deny the claims.

In a statement issued to Thump, addressing the reported leak from a source close to the company’s plans, a representative for the Berlin-based company said, “The story has no truth to it. At SoundCloud, we're on a mission to create a place where all creativity can live. SoundCloud's creator community, including DJs, is incredibly important to us.”

The news comes amidst a series of changes for the music streaming service, which includes the launch of its new subscription service in the UK and Ireland earlier this month (May). That came after SoundCloud updated its Android and iOS apps with a new music discovery feature called Stations.

A report in January showed that the company is posing a big competitive threat to Spotify, shortly before financial reports released in February showed SoundCloud made a loss of £30.32m in 2014.
