Sónar unveils plans for immersive, 3D audiovisual dome at 2019 festival

With Barcelona festival Sónar's 2019 edition now only a couple of weeks away, organisers have confirmed plans for an immersive, 3D dome which will host a number of audiovisual premieres through the weekend.

The dome, which is 19 metres in diameter, will feature a programme curated by the festival's technology-focused Sónar+D wing. Amongst the premieres are 'Nebulae' by French artist Joanie Lemercier (who will chart a "one of a kind journey around the cosmos" according to a press release), an abstract algorithm-based audio and generative video piece called 'factors' from Japan's Daito Manabe and Satoshi Horii, and an audiovisual piece about "the real, the unreal and the perception of both" by María S. Leiva and Miguel Arrieta called 'Perception'.

Holly Herndon, fresh from the release of her recent album, 'PROTO', will make an appearance alongside partner and collaborator Mat Dryhurst to present a work called 'Chain Opera', which bring together AI and the human voice.
