Theo Parrish has shared a short film to accompany the release of his recent compilation for !K7, 'DJ-Kicks: Detroit Forward'.
The 15-minute film, which you can watch below, was made by Detroit-based director and photographer Kashria Dowridge and highlights a number of the Detroit artists whose music features across Parrish's mix. Among the artists featured in the film are Whodat, KESSWA, Ian Fink and Sophiyah E..
Theo Parrish's contribution to the long-running 'DJ-Kicks' mix series came out in October. The 19-track mix was billed as a celebration of the present and future of music in Parrish's home city of Detroit.
At the time of the album's announcement, Parrish said in a statement: "Detroit creates. But rarely imitates. Why? We hear and see many from other places do that with what we originate. No need to follow. Get it straight.
"In the Great Lakes there's always more under the surface – more than what appears to penetrate the top layer of attention and recognition. What about those that defy tradition? Those that sidestep the inaccurate definitions often given from outside positions? This is that evidence. Enjoy."
