Third man charged in connection to murder of Run-D.M.C.'s Jam Master Jay

Prosecutors in Brooklyn have indicted a third man in connection with the fatal 2002 shooting of Run D.M.C.'s Jam Master Jay

The New York Times reports that Jay Bryant, a 49-year-old resident of Queens, New York, was charged with murder as well as drug trafficking-related charges. He was already in custody awaiting trial on a separate drug-related charge.

Prosecutors allege that Bryant was seen entering the recording studio building in the Jamaica area of Queens in which Jam Master Jay was shot just before the shooting took place. They also claim that clothing with his DNA was found at the scene.

Two men, Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington, were arrested in 2020 in connection with the shooting. They were indicted on similar charges of murder and drug trafficking, and have both pleaded not guilty, Their trial is scheduled to begin in January 2024, having originally been set to start last September and then been pushed back to February of this year.

Jam Master Jay was born Jason William Mizell, and founded Run-D.M.C. in 1983 with Joseph 'Rev Run' Simmons and Darryl 'D.M.C.' McDaniels. He was shot dead at the age of 37.
