Two dead and several injured in German nightclub shooting

Shooting took place at Grey club in Konstanz...

Two people have been killed and several injured after a gunman opened fire at a German nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident took place at a packed Grey club in the city of Konstanz, Germany near the Swiss border at 4:30 am.

The club's doorman is said to have been shot as he tried to prevent the attacker from entering the club.

The attacker hasn't been named yet but is believed to be a 34-year-old Iraqi citizen who had lived in Germany for several years.

German Police shot and killed the attacker, who later died from injuries in hospital, with one Policeman injured during the gun battle, though his injuries aren't thought to be life-threatening.

Konstanz police spokesman Fritz Bezikofer told the n-tv: "The motives of the man who acted alone are unclear.

"We are still investigating but the circumstances surrounding the events at the disco in the evening before the shooting are a bit clearer and this led us to rule out a terrorism background."
