How Ibiza became the world's most famous party island: Watch

The story of the White Isle’s rise to the top...

Ibiza's long and storied history from humble island in the middle of the Meditteranean to becoming the world's most famous clubbing destinations is explored in a new documentary called Ibiza era una fiesta (Ibiza was a Party).

Created by Spanish public broadcaster RTVE, the hour-long documentary traces the island's transition from an unspoilt paradise that attracted hippie gatherings in the 60s and 70s to becoming today's clubbing mecca that now attracts millions of electronic music-loving tourists each year.

The documentary features interviews with the likes of Abel Matutes, whose family owns and run Ushuaïa, Ushuaïa Tower, Hard Rock Hotel, and most recently Hï Ibiza, which has replaced Space.

The documentary is in Spanish with Spanish subtitles, but you can download a browser extension that will translate the documentary into English.
