Watch Jean-Michel Jarre become first-ever passenger in flying car

"One second you speak to the driver, and next, you are up there in the air"

Jean-Michel Jarre has become the first-ever passenger to ride in a newly designed flying car. Watch a video below.

The electronic music icon — known for his futuristic compositions — was invited to take a flight in the KleinVision AirCar. The vehicle is a unique hybrid model, which can transform from sports roadster to micro-plane in a matter of minutes.

Certified to fly in 2022, the company behind the invention hope to bring it to market within the next 12 months, kicking of "a new era in transportation with a touch of magic."

"One second you speak to the driver, and next, you are up there in the air—an amazing experience," Jarre said after completing two flights in the AirCar. The tests took place at Slovakia's Piešťany Airport.

This continues a long legacy of the musician experimenting and exploring new technologies and ideas. His 1976 breakthrough album, 'Oxygéne', is considered to have helped catalyse the synthesiser revolution. Its follow up, 'Èquinoxe', was performed at Place de la Concorde at an open air concert in 1979. The show was attended by a record-breaking one million people, a number Jarre has since surpassed on two occasions.

Other examples include his 2004 CD and DVD package 'AERO', which was recorded in 5.1 surround sound, his use of a laser harp — indicative of a focus on visual as much as musical performance — and a mixed reality Christmas concert at the Château de Versailles earlier this year. Over the years, collaborations have featured names like Gessaffelstein, Armin van Buuren, and M83.
