WAX LYRICAL: JASON ROSS

A trance star in the making...

Jason Ross is one of the true rising stars in dance music. He’s been chosen by Above & Beyond for a collaboration on the club mix of ‘Fly To New York’, tapped by Seven Lions to remix the showstopper hit, ‘Creation’, working on mashups with Kaskade and most recently helming the latest Anjunabeats Worldwide mix and tour. The young beatsmith’s latest single, titled ‘Me Tonight’ and featuring Lauren Ray, was a Beatport Trance #1 almost instantly upon drop-age. If that wasn’t enough, the tour diary is full for Ross, who is playing nearly two dozen festivals and shows through the fall, closing out his hottest year to date and leading into a 2017 filled with the highest of expectations. DJ Mag USA digs out some more personal wax from the rising trance star.

First-ever rave experience?

“I saw Deadmau5 and Armin van Buuren at some rave in Vegas during Halloween in 2008… pretty awesome experience. Don't think I'll ever see those two playing back to back again.”

What is the most crucial record of all time?
“I'd have to say Jon Hopkins’ ‘Open Eye Signal’. It played such a pivotal role in my musical direction when I was just starting out, never heard anything like that before and it led me to so many interesting things.”

Name three tunes that never leave your bag?
“Currently, the three tunes that never leave my bag are 'Fly To New York', my club mix collab with Above & Beyond; 'Atlas', my collab with Wrechiski; and 'Me Tonight', my latest single featuring Lauren Ray.”

What's your lights-up, end-of-night tune? And why?
“It's gotta be Arty's remix of Porter Robinson's 'Lionhearted'. No matter how worn out the crowd is at the end, they somehow have a final burst of energy whenever I drop this track.”

Imagine the world is going to end tomorrow. What are you going to do tonight?
“Throw a massive party with my close friends and family.”
