WeTransfer offers laid-off SoundCloud employees $10K toward industry innovation

"Don't get a job!" pleads the WeTransfer president...

WeTransfer has offered all 173 recent SoundCloud lay off causalities $10,000 (US) so they do not “stray from [their] original mission to change the way we consume or create music – an endeavor that made SoundCloud unique in the world of tech.”

The message comes from the filing sharing tech’s president Damian Bradfield in an email to the former SoundCloud employees.

Bradfield was led to the idea by embattled SoundCloud co-founder Alexander Ljung. Bradfield noted, via a Medium blog entry, that Ljung’s appearance during Berlin’s Tech Open Air Conference sparked the idea to keep the laid off SoundCloud “challengers” innovating within the Berlin tech space rather than leave the region for other opportunities.

The $10,000 arrives with “no equity, no strings attached” reassures WeTransfer’s Music Director Lukas Nieuwenhuijsen via Fact.
