COCORICO FORCED INTO TEMPORARY CLOSURE FOLLOWING DRUG DEATH

The Italian club will close for four months following the death of a 16-year-old clubber.

Italian club Cocoricò has been ordered to shut its doors for four months following the death of a 16-year-old clubber.

The decision follows a two-week investigation into the death of Lamberto Lucaccioni, who was clubbing at  Cocoricò with two 17-year-old friends when he allegedly took ecstasy, before being rushed to hospital where he died shortly after.

The closure of the club, located in Riccione near the resort of Rimini on the Adriatic coast, follows over a hundred reported incidents on the site that required police investigation, including numerous drug-related incidents.

“This decision sets an example for the future and has gone as we hoped,” said the mayor of Riccione, Renata Tosi. “Now a period of soul-searching must begin among citizens, among political leaders and the club operators, about how we got to this point.”

One of Italy's most popular clubs and featured multiple times in the DJ Mag Top 100 Clubs poll, Cocoricò is famed for its pyramid-like glass roof and has previously hosted sets from Fatboy Slim, Ricardo Villalobos and Marco Carola.
