A NEW FILM ABOUT DALLAS RAVE IN THE '80S IS COMING

Tom Cruise, legal highs & classic Chicago sounds

Dori Oskowitz has been announced as the director of a new, as-yet-untitled independent film about the ecstasy-fuelled rave movement in Dallas, Texas, during the mid-1980s.

Rumoured to be titled 'United Ecstasy Project', the new film is one of several to focus on Dallas' brief rave scene, which popped up between 1984 and mid-1985, and was largely focused inside the walls of legendary Dallas nightclub, The Starck Club.

The opulent warehouse-turned-trendy-hot-spot, which still stands today, was the epicentre for the explosion of rave in oil-rich Dallas, giving early house music a voice outside the niche, music-savvy cliques and largely gay, Black and Latino parties it called home in Chicago.

Bizarrely, former NBA player Steve Nash's production company Meathawk Productions is set to fund the film. When speaking about the film, Steve Nash told Variety, “Having played in Dallas for six years, I was drawn to this project for its relationship with the city.

“After poring over the material I found an incredibly unique story with so many vibrant characters and a bold history known as the origin to the rave scene ecstasy culture. Its footprints are now all over the world.”

Madonna, Tom Cruise and Red Hot Chili Peppers were all spotted at The Starck Club during the period, and feature in 2011 documentary Warriors Of The Discotheque: The Starck Club (trailer below), while a second documentary The Starck Club is due out this year.
