MARC HOULE TO PERFORM JAPANESE FILM SCORE AT ADE

Techno producer will premiere the score of 1920s Japanese silent film

Canadian techno producer Marc Houle has pushed the boundaries yet again, by scoring 1926 Japanese silent film A Page of Madness, and will be performing it live at this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event.

As part of the festival’s Films @ ADE programme, Thursday October 15th will see Marc performing his dark composition live to an audience.

The striking film, which had a jazz soundtrack added to it in the '70s, is a masterpiece of Japanese silent cinema that used expressionist and surrealist techniques to convey the feelings of patients in a mental hospital.
The techno mainstay has said of the project, “When I first discovered the movie I was really drawn to all the beautiful visual elements and the emotions that were involved. The ‘70s jazz soundtrack that was later added seemed to detract rather than add to the overall mood. I kept imagining a very dark sound to equal the dark story and decided to create one myself. The results were so moving and I am hoping to share this experience with others at ADE this year."

The 20th edition of the Amsterdam Dance Event takes place October 14-18. Head here to purchase tickets.
