SÓNAR REVEALS LATIN AMERICAN CONFERENCE PROGRAMMES

Including astronomer-musician collabs!

Sónar is making its South American debut this December, heading to Bogotá, Colombia, Santiago, Chile; and Buenos Aires, Argentina in late 2015.

The Spanish festival brand has just announced its workshop, panel and exhibit programme, and it’s looking pretty out of this world.

There are over 80 Sónar +D activities scheduled across the three cities, and at Santiago de Chile, artists will be making music with sounds from the universe as captured by astronomers at the world’s biggest telescope (pictured), situated in the Atacama desert. There’ll also be speakers ranging from Austrian Gerfried Stocker, artistic director at the Ars Electronica Centre, and Leo Prieto, founder of Fayerwayer, the most widely read technology blog in Latin America.

Buenos Aires is to host Music Hack Day, a two-dayer of workshops including production, distribution and musical interpretation, as well as a panel of five Argentine female DJs, a performance by Nicola Cruz and a masterclass from Leo Garcia on MPC samplers.

While São Paulo will get a series of guided tours, 3D printers and talks about the culture of digital manufacturing, offering an extensive SónarCinema programme.

Music-wise, Hot Chip and Chemical Brothers are programmed on the bill, alongside Brodinski, Evian Christ, Recondite and many more.
