DIANE CHARLEMAGNE RIP

Singer on Goldie's 'Inner City' life and lots of other dance tracks loses battle with cancer

Singer Diane Charlemagne lost her long battle with cancer at 5am this morning (Wednesday 28th October). She was 51.
Diane was the vocalist on many prominent dance tracks, perhaps most famously her amazing vocal on 'Inner City Life' by Goldie. She also did vocals for Moby on some of his live tours, and worked with other drum & bass acts such as Netsky, London Elektricity, Aquasky and S.P.Y.

She also worked with house acts such as the Rhythm Masters, Joey Negro and Satshi Tomiie.

Diane started out singing with funk act 52nd Street in the 1980s. She them went on to form Urban Cookie Collective, who had a big hit with pop-rave cut 'The Key, The Secret' in the 1993.

It was her work with Reinforced Records in the early '90s that brought her into contact with Goldie. She recorded 'Inner City Life' with the legendary junglist, her soaring soulful vocal helping to make it the centrepiece of Goldie's 'Timeless' album — and the biggest single from it.
