BENGA IS COMING OUT OF RETIREMENT IN 2016

The dubstep pioneer will return to DJing in the new year

Benga has announced that he is coming out of retirement next year. The Croydon DJ and producer, who makes up one third of Magnetic Man together with Skream and Artwork, is behind some of dubstep’s defining records.

Benga will DJ at fabric in February as part of a Tectonic takeover, together with Mumdance, Pinch, Acre and Ipman.

Benga played his first DJ set in over a year at Bestival in September after announcing his retirement in 2014.

In a series of tweets posted earlier this year, he opened up about his mental health problems, revealing that he was diagnosed as bipolar and suffering from schizophrenia.

In an interview in the Guardian, the DJ spoke candidly about suffering from a breakdown, which led to him being sectioned in 2013. “There’s a lot of stigma around sectioning, as if it’s something you couldn’t possibly do to another person. A lot of people are scared. But it needs to be done,” he said.

Benga is also reportedly planning to release new material in 2016.
