STEREOSONIC FESTIVAL ORGANISERS ENDORSE PILL TESTING SCHEME

Stereosonic, one of Australia’s biggest music festivals, have given provisional support for a pill testing scheme at their events.

Organisers Totem OneLove said in a statement post on their website that they endorse an initiative to check and warn festival-goers of the high purity of drugs like ecstasy and MDMA. Two people died last year from suspected drug overdoses at Stereosonic – one in Sydney and one in Adelaide.

"In principle pill testing would have our full support as long as all the key stakeholders sanctioned the initiative to ensure its effectiveness," organisers wrote.

We would strongly support any policies or initiatives that would minimise harm, reduce drug use and make events a safer environment for patrons."

According to ABC, seven people died after allegedly taking drugs at music festivals across Australia in the past 12 months.
