Let's Dance!

It has been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and if that's the case, David Bowie has it sorted.

Following on from Bowies 60th birthday and Rapster's success with the 'Exit Music' album, which featured adventurous new covers of Radiohead's back catalogue, !K7 decided it was the right time to introduce 'Life Beyond Mars: Bowie Covered'.

The album was brought together after deliberately seeking out electronic artists that had been influenced by Bowie's cocaine-addled alter-ego, the Thin White Duke. After hand picking a specific group they were given free reign of his work to re-master, remix and refresh as close to or as obscure and remote as they liked to the original sound.

The outcome has created a fascinating range of interpretations by an even more varied cast of musicians, from Detroit's Matthew Dear and Carl Craig to Joakim, Kelley Polar, Susumu Yokota and Au Revoir Simone.

The compilation revisits some obvious tracks like 'Station To Station', of which Bowie himself described as being "devoid of spirit", right through to the less acclaimed Labyrinth soundtrack from 1989 and the dramatic stylings of 'Tonight' from 1984. Elsewhere, the new versions reference Ziggy Stardust's cosmic glam and the cinematic low art of 'Hunky Dory'.

Due for release on June 23rd the unique album is set for big things for both old school David Bowie fans as well as the new wave of electronic dance music fans across the board.
