Off the back of releasing his new virtual reality game (produced by Absolut Labs), Deadmau5 has declared VR to be the next big step for the music industry.
In an interview with Billboard, the Canadian DJ says: "We're gonna start to see a merge happen in the industry, where production companies will be talking to game studios," adding, "musicians are going to be working with game companies instead of some t**t director with a 35 mm shooting a music video."
Deadmau5 also discusses the inspiration behind his game, Absolut Deadmau5, explaining that he only wanted to do it if it was done "well", and not as a simple 360° head-tracking view. "It's technologically as f**king insane as it could be, it's there, it's working, you can get it in anyone's hands right now," he continues. "To build something that can work on that platform is a f**king great way to entice people into VR development."
The masked producer dropped a new track via the game too, which he believes is the first time a song has been released via VR.
