Coming on the UK’s own Cr2 Records, Space has released its final ever compilation CD to mark the legendary club’s impending closure. Mixed by Music Is Revolution main man Carl Cox, regular Space residents Pig & Dan, and Cr2 head honcho, Mark Brown, the compilation aims to capture a little of the club’s magic, with tracks spanning from 1989 all the way to 2016. Expect to hear records from everyone from Patrick Topping to Deetron, with a bunch of old school classics thrown in for good measure. DJ Mag Ibiza catches up with Pig & Dan and Mark Brown to find out what mixing Space’s final compilation means to them....
On their mix, techno duo Pig & Dan, said: “From the beginning, both of us have witnessed and been influenced by years of amazing music on the terrace at Space Ibiza. We’ve shared those euphoric moments that encouraged us to strive towards where we are today, both behind the decks and as producers. The unity and closeness of communication shared between the DJ and the crowd have always been renowned at Space! Being part of just an honour to us. Space has and always will remain a major part of the shaping of our industry. The magic is unexplainable and unseen, however it’s truly apparent every time you get lost within.”
On the comp, Cr2 owner Mark Brown, said: “As owner and founder of Cr2, it’s a huge honour and pleasure to once again work with not only the world’s most important electronic music club, but a staple of popular music culture for 27 years. Ever since the first time I stepped onto the infamous Space terrace and witnessed Laurent Garnier showcasing an eye-opening blend of house, techno and everything inbetween, I knew from that moment that as a DJ — Space is always going to hold a special place in my heart. My disc on this album is a true reflection of me as a DJ and the true sound of Mark Brown in 2016. Special thanks to Pepe, Juan, Charlie, all the staff at Space and the team at Cr2 for all their hard work on this incredible album project.”
‘Space Ibiza 2016’ is out now on Cr2 Records.
