The family of Sam Alger — who was tragically was found dead after going missing on a night out at Elrow, Barcelona — have started a fundraising campaign to help create a new sports pavilion at Litcham School in his memory.
Alger went missing from his brother and friends at Elrow, Barcelona last month, and after an extensive online campaign to locate him, his body was later found on nearby farmland two days after going missing.
“After Sam's death so many friends/family and the wider community felt they needed to do something for Sam and were asking if they could make donations,” explained Sam’s brother Robbie Alger to DJ Mag.
A keen sportsman — who worked in Qatar as a sports analyst — Sam’s friends and family knew that their efforts should focus on a sporting legacy in his memory. “Sam was really into all sport and especially football so the idea of fundraising for the school that we both went to, and our mum (who now also works there) and where our grandad was a governor for many years, seemed fitting”.
“We know these new sports facilities would increase participation and enjoyment in sport and could drive aspirations towards sporting excellence — something Sam would truly approve of as sport was his passion (along with music!) It has also given us something positive to focus on at such a tragic and heartbreaking time.”
His family and friends are also planning more fundraising events, having already hosted a party alongside party collective YAYA, which took place in Sam's hometown of Norwich, where they raised over £1,000 with Sam's brother Robbie spinning alongside Pragg for a fitting musical tribute to his brother. “There are several more fundraising events in the planning, both in this country and in Qatar. I also co-own a clothing brand 'The New Dealers' and we are currently working on a tribute range for Sam with profits going towards the charity.”
Sam’s friends and family are aiming to raise £5,000 towards the new sports pavilion in Sam's honour, with the current total sitting at £3,211.
