12 TRACKS THAT CHART THE HISTORY OF SNEAKY PETE'S

Ahead of hosting a festival stage at this year’s Electric Fields, the main man behind Scottish clubbing institution Sneaky Pete’s has selected twelve tracks for DJ Mag that charts the club’s history.

Sneaky Pete’s Electric Field's stage line-up features club favourites Erol Alkan, Joy Orbison, Factory Floor, as well as fresh faces like Denis Sulta, Eclair Fifi and many more. “We’ve always been lucky to have such amazing DJs play the club,” explains Sneaky Pete’s owner Nick Stewart to DJ Mag.

“At just 100 capacity it’s really an anomaly to be so well known. The residents, guys like the Soul Jam and Juice crews, have been able to create such a consistently good atmosphere that it’s easy for guests to come down and know that they have the support of the crowd to play from the heart. All the DJs below have played multiple shows for us and we hope to have all of them back again."

"Back in our first or second year, one of the Filthy Dukes couldn’t make it here to play, so a guy called Daniel Avery filled in. He’s played for us once or twice a year since then, we are really proud of him and where he’s got to, and he’s been the connect to Phantasy, one of our favourite labels."

"On Daniel’s recommendation, Erol Alkan has played semi-regular shows for us for a few years now. I’ve been a huge fan of his since he ran Trash at The End in the mid 2000s. When I started the club 8 years ago I thought the high point we could reach one day was to have him play, but now he’s a genuine friend of the venue."

Popular opinion for years was that Glasgow was where it was at and Edinburgh was way behind. But after Optimo’s JD Twitch declared a particularly sweaty show here “the best fun I’ve had in Edinburgh this millennium” we had an idea that Edinburgh’s crowds were really getting behind good music, just when Glasgow was getting really laddish, Edinburgh was getting savvy.

Well it’s certainly the place for it, and we have to thank those labels for putting us on the map with their residences here. LuckyMe still run shows here. Hudson Mohawke terminally blowing the bass bins was a memorably expensive event, and Ben UFO sharing the decks with Rustie was one of the most magically odd pairings we’ve had."
