ISLINGTON MP EMILY THORNBERRY “DISGUSTED” BY HANDLING OF FABRIC CLOSURE

This “sets a worrying precedent when we are already losing many of our nightclubs”...

Emily Thornberry, MP for Islington South and Finsbury and Shadow Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, has issued a statement, criticising Islington Council’s decision to revoke fabric’s license, whilst also branding the Metropolitan Police’s attitude towards the club “disgusting”.

In a lengthy Facebook post, which you can read in full below, Thornberry said the fabric closure “sets a worrying precedent at a time when we are already losing many of our nightclubs,” whilst going on to state, “We middle-aged politicians should try to understand it from the perspective of young people.

“I have been disgusted by the police’s attitude in this,” she continued. “The suggestion that Fabric should change its name and music was wrong. Should there be an approved Met Police playlist, with Brian Adams or something?”

Thornberry originally spoke publically in support of fabric nightclub the day before its licensing review last Tuesday (6th September).

Last week, news came that fabric would appeal Islington Council’s decision to revoke their license, with the official campaign to re-open the Farringdon venue launching this week. DJ Mag also revealed that the license ruling at fabric’s hearing was not made by a unanimous decision.
