LONDON MAYOR SADIQ KHAN SET TO PROTECT CAPITAL’S VENUES WITH NEW LEGISLATION

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has vowed to introduce the agent of change principle in the next London Plan. He made the pledge in a statement on Facebook.

The law, if passed, would protect London venues by meaning that property developers would be responsible for ensuring they don’t threaten the future of existing establishments, which would include developers paying for soundproofing venues if new residents were affected.

“I intend to protect venues by introducing an ‘Agent of Change’ rule into the next London Plan,” Khan said in the statement. “Developers would be responsible for ensuring their new developments don't threaten the future of existing venues.” You can read the post in full below.

Khan first mooted the idea of using the agent of change principle in an interview whilst discussing fabric earlier this month (September), ahead of its proposed introduction as legislation through the London Plan, a planning document produced by the Mayor to aid sustainable development in the capital.
