Rinse FM

London station awarded FM radio license

Words: Bianca Mitchell

The mighty pioneer of dubstep and grime, Rinse FM has been awarded an FM license after a massive 16 years contribution to radio and the dance music industry.

The station, which began as a platform for jungle in 1994, provided the first exposure to Dizzee Rascal, Wiley and numerous dubstep DJs including Skream and Plastician.

Rinse first went for a license in August 2007 and managed to muster a huge petition of supporters in a matter of weeks. However, it still took a further four years for them to finally reach the immensely satisfying result of last week's license grant.

The Rinse community are now free to continue broadcasting quality, fresh and ground-breaking underground music in the unique format that distinguishes them from other conventional radio stations, all under their brand new official license.
