DJ World Championships

The DMC World DJ Championships takes place in September in London. The world's best turntablists will battle it out for $30,000 prize money.

The world's best scratch turntablists and DJs will be battling it out at the DMC World DJ Championships on 10th and 11th September at the Hammersmith Palais in London.

Like the World Cup, but for DJs, this legendary global contest has been running for 20 years, and is considered by many as the pinnacle of DJ competitions.

A whopping $30,000 in prize money is up for grabs, as well as a pair of golden Technics turntables.

Surprisingly, the organisers of the competition have decided to return back to basics with regards to the technology competitors are allowed to use.

DJ challengers will only be given one set of Technics SL1210 MK2 turntables, and one mixer with no effects or modifications, and only Ortofon styli.

The competition will be broken into three key events: the Battle for World Supremacy will see solo DJs going head-to-head with knock out rounds leading to a final with just two DJs.

The Team Event will see competing teams of two, three, or four DJs using up to eight turntables battle each other.

But it's the main Individual Event that will capture the imagination of beat junkies and DJ fans.

Competitors must showcase their scratching and mixing technique in just XXX minutes.

Insiders are tipping UK talent Asian Hawk to be crowned DMC World DJ Champion this year, which will be decided by a team of industry experts and ex-DJs at Hammersmith Palais.
