I Want My MTV Ibiza

Plastikman, 2ManyDJs and Duran Duran head big island line-up!

Music television channel MTV has just announced that it’s hosting a series of spectacular events in Ibiza over the summer, with a program combining some top live acts and DJs.

For ten weeks over the summer months, MTV will take over Amnesia every Friday with ‘I Want My MTV Ibiza’, and the first live acts to be announced are 2ManyDJs live (July 22nd), Mark Ronson & The Business International (July 29th), Richie Hawtin presents Plastikman (August 5th) and ‘80s synth-poppers Duran Duran (August 12th), performing their first ever show on the island.

Richie Hawtin has been causing a sensation over the last year or so with his limited edition live Plastikman shows, based on his early techno moniker from the ‘90s.

More humungous live acts will be announced shortly, while Layo & Bushwacka! bring their Shake It concept to the MTV nights with a host of guest DJs joining them. The ‘Love Story’ producers will be installed as weekly residents, and DJs already confirmed to join them include Marco Carola, James Holden, Magda, Mark Ronson and Mar-T.

“Having played as guests at everywhere from We Love to Cocoon, DC10 to Subliminal, the opportunity to be residents and bring Shake It to Ibiza with MTV at Amnesia was such an easy choice and a natural step,” Layo & Bushwacka said. “The concept of live music and DJs in one room with the cutting-edge house and techno in the Shake It room makes this something very fresh for Ibiza. The island is all about embracing new concepts and sharing it with people from all over the world, and this night is the perfect reflection of that ethos.”

Ibiza Rocks brought indie bands to Ibiza, but not since the Renaissance parties at Privilege a decade ago has such an ambitious ‘live acts and DJs in a club’ concept been brought to the island – and some of the biggest acts in the world are still to be announced. MTV themselves have a history of putting on events in Ibiza, staging the island’s first – and only – ever festival in 1999.

The ‘I Want My MTV Ibiza’ events will be televised at various points across the summer on MTV UK, MTV Spain, plus 27 other countries and on mtv.co.uk
