Wheeler and Dealer

N-Type releases the first compilation album for Wheel & Deal

N-Type, the guvna of Wheel & Deal Records, is showcasing his awe-ispiring army of producers with the double disc ‘Wheel & Deal Dubstep Volume One’ out in September.

CD One is an unmixed collection of previously unreleased dubs. Over the last year these chosen pieces of dancefloor weaponry have allowed N-Type to capture the ears and conquer the minds of both ravers and home listeners. CD two is a history lesson in melodic form, the latest N-Type mix guiding you through the highlights of Wheel & Deal’s arsenal of killer releases.

Wheel & Deal will be two this October and in this short space of time has cemented its reputation as one of the uncompromising forces behind the dubstep scene. It’s about time Wheel & Deal rounded-up the troops and released a compilation album, and it's definitely been worth the wait. N-Type we salute you!

We caught up with the guvna to have a quick chat about the album and all things Wheel & Deal.

What's been keeping you busy at the moment?
"A lot of things, getting Wheel and Deal Dubstep Vol 1 album together, re-launching my first label Terrain Records with all new jungle influenced dubstep, Sin City nights with Hatcha, graphics for all my labels and Wheel and Deal nights in and out of the country, we just had a great one at Paradiso in Amsterdam, that was sick! Working on soundtracks for advertising, festival season, all the behind the scenes business side of things, we do a lot of things in house. In between all of this I'm also moving house!"

Are you looking forward to your second birthday in October?
"Yes mate! 7th October at Cable London. We've got all three rooms open and a massive line-up, most of which is dubstep, jungle & house. All will be revealed at a later date!"

Why did you feel now was the right time to release a compilation album?
"Well we have been going for around two years and have releases lined up till cat number ‘Wheelydeal026’ so I thought it was about time to show the people who most of the family are up till now. The compilation pretty much features everyone from the label and gives you the latest dubplates, previously unreleased dubs and also my latest DJ mix. The mix is very different to all the others I’ve had out as this is a history of W&D paying tribute to the last two years. Everything on this album is from Wheel & Deal other than two tracks forthcoming on Terrain, my other label. I thought it was nice to give a taster of things to come on Terrain Records also."

Why did you select the tracks that you did?
"That part was easy! I love all the tracks that are on the album, all sick and individual in their own right. I tried to feature one track from each artist but that was near impossible as we've got a big family, so watch out for Vol 2!"

We love the cover of the CD, where did you get the idea from?
"Because the tunes are Meaty! Beefy, beefy! Prime Cuts! I think the glare from the meat clever wielding wrong'un speaks for itself! He's a lovely chap really, always cleans up after himself and always makes sure the pigs are well fed! Oink Oink!

"Well, my mate Megamunden, he's been a friend of mine since uni, he's one of my favourite artists, and an accomplished designer. He's worked on a few Wheel & Deal singles before and we've always worked well together drumming up crazy ideas! He and another designer, Ross, built the image of the dodgy wheeler-dealer Croydon butcher. The vibe of Wheel & Deal has always been 'off the back of a lorry straight to plate! And what a plate full this is!"

What's in the pipeline for yourself and Wheel & Deal?
"I’ve got some sick releases pending from artist such as Dismantle, Killawatt, Benton, also some artist albums, along with Wheel & DealDubstep Vol 2, the birthday bash in October at Cable, as well as more label nights here and abroad. I'm also working on my own album and I've got a project with K-aze a.k.a Lemon D I'm working on right now."
