Phonica Records is 8!

Picked as one of the “seven best record stores in the world” in our April issue, Phonica Records – tucked away at the edge of Soho – is arguably the most well respected shop for underground electronic music in London.

Always on-the-pulse, dishing out the debonair house, techno, disco, dub and bass solidly since it set up shop eight years ago, it’s a regular drop-in for the likes James Murphy, Francois K, Derrick Carter, Andrew Weatherall and even Max Branning from Eastenders.

Offering 60% vinyl stock, with 50% of sales happening online, Phonica is still going strong as the local market leader for cutting-edge wax, remaining a regular walking ground for international legends, the likes of Carl Craig, who drop in to play the occassional snug in-store party.

This Saturday (1st October), to mark eight years of dancefloor dedication, the Phonica guys are throwing a huge party at Great Suffolk Street Warehouse featuring the cream of the crop of the underground scene hosted by Phonica, Leftroom and The Jackathon. Heidi (who used to work behind the desk), Joy Orbison, Soul Clap, Simon Rigg (who help set up the store), plus Visionquest’s Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves and Lee Curtiss, Benoit & Sergio (live), Matt Tolfrey, Mathias Kaden, Deetron and Waif & Strays will pay their respects pretty much till sunrise with a thrilling concoction of beats and bass.
