Wax is back

The mighty Wax settles into its new home at Junk Club

Since its conception on a wintry Wednesday night back in 2009, Wax has become the best place along the south coast to gain your weekly dose of d&b and dubstep.

This bouncing bundle of bass has worked it’s way into the hearts of thousands and has now generated a loyal following with ravers returning week in, week out, for some serious partying, praised by regulars and newcomers for bringing the biggest and best names in the game, every week.

But it hasn’t always been plain sailing for this legendary night, born and raised in Southampton’s Rhino, Wax had nothing but the finest up bringing, a sumptuous sound system, clean enough to accentuate dubs with the lowest subs and tunes with the twinkliest tweets. Dark and consuming, Rhino was a physical metaphor for the music within, deep and decadent, with sharp stabs of colour created by it’s state of the art LED ceiling.

However one sad night in March 2010, the unimaginable happened; Rhino a club that had nurtured its town for over twenty years was caught in a horrific blaze. Fortunately no-one was hurt, but the famous building suffered terrible damage and Wax regulars mourned the tragic loss of an astounding club.

In October 2010 Rhino re-opened its shiny new door with a shiny new name and was re-branded as Audio to co-inside with it’s successful sister club, Audio of Brighton. With its spanking interior Wax returned with acts such a Commix, Friction, DJ Marky, Skream and Loefah, to name but a few, initiating even more party goers into its family.

In early summer 2011 Audio announced even more devastating news. The club had been sold, and as the club changed hands, fears that the unparalleled vibes synonymous with the venue and amazing management team would be lost forever.

But fear not, with a new home at the luxurious Junk Club and the booking of old friends, Borgore for it’s re-launch and the mighty Andy C for week two, Wax is back with a bang. This week will see the return of the much celebrated dub master, David Rodigan (Wednesday 19th October) and on the following Wednesday, Wax will deploy the devastating dnb of Hospital Records's Logistics (26th) for more mid-week madness.

Powered by Supercharged, and renowned for booking artists from each and every corner of the dnb and dubstep spectrum, the Wax family has been blessed with an army of amazing residents - these DJs and MCs have eclectic talents and have no problem holding their own with the diverse depths of Wax headliners.

Wax is more than a night, it’s a family, and everybody’s welcome. If you love good music, good people and most importantly good vibes, we’ll see you there!
