Jam hot!

Heidi on first release on Jackathon Jams

Radio 1 golden girl Heidi is never easy to track down. Ibiza, Barcelona, London... her diary reads more like an airport arrivals board than a calendar – that was only June.

Somehow though, she's managed to find time to launch her own label alongside the Jackathon parties she is bringing to Carnival at Sankeys Ibiza this summer. Jackathon Jams is the newly the allocated plot for her friend's rump-shaking beats and the first package is, you guessed it, incredibly juicy.

Launched in a collusion with Get Physical, the German label responsible for her Jackathon compilation and samplers, the first release is an irresistibly funky slice of robust house, fittingly titled 'Getting Freaky', from a contrastingly dainty Maya Jane Coles (listen below), plus there is a meaty cut from Miss Kittin and a remix from Tini (out now). House girls doing it for themselves, basically.

Tasty stuff, eh? We asked the queen of jackin' house to spill the beans on the new project...

Where you been and what you been up to, Heidi?

“I have been quite busy. Summer is always nuts with festivals and the Ibiza season. I'm currently heading back to the White Isle to do my very first Jackathon night at Sankeys.”

Why launch Jackathon Jams?

“I felt it was time. The nights have been doing really well and it's also something for the fans. I'm not really a producer so I thought this is a good way to get behind artists that I believe in and give them a push. There is so much music out there at the moment and its really fun to make sure it gets heard.”

Why not continue to release stuff on Get Physical?

“I felt that the music i will bring out wasn't suited for them, so we sat down together and decided that i start another outlet. They are helping me with it but I just wanted it to have a different name. Start fresh so to speak.”

Tell us about the release?

“I'm so happy with the first release as it has some of my favourite female artists on it. There also hasn't been any EPs like this before. Kittin, Maya and Tini are all fantastic producers and wonderful women and I wanted to showcase that. They were sweet enough to take time out of their busy schedules and make me these tracks for me. The result is more than I could of asked for. Kittin was such an inspiration to me when I first got into this business, Maya is an awesome chick and a shit-hot producer and Tini is well on her way to a full on take over. I feel really lucky to have them in my life.”

What next for the imprints?

“I have releases coming from: Eats Everything, Alexis Raphael, Jesse Perez, Lauhaus and Rik Woldring to name a few and each EP will have a remix of one of the tracks. I know some of these guys have released on other labels, but they have made tracks that are out-of-the-box and ready for the floor. Its really exciting.”
